In the 4th century BC The late classical Greek sculptor Leochares worked in Athens. We know little about his life, so most of his works are preserved as copies. His confirmed works include his participation in the decoration of the mausoleum of Halikarnassos around 350 BC. BC, he helped build the Amazon battle frieze there. Leochares also became known for his portraits and representations of the gods. He received orders for the Philippeion in Olympia, where he modeled members of the Royal Family of Philipp II of Macedonia. He also made many busts of Alexander the big one. His work is characterized by slim proportions and lively movements. He is a key figure as a pioneer of Hellenism.
