The Quadriga on the Brandenburg Gate is Schadow's best -known work. Johann Gottfried Schadow was the most important German sculptor of the Napoleonic era. Trained in the royal workshop, he became head of the court sculpture workshop and "director of all sculptures" in 1788. Realistic, national and individual trains are increasingly joining the classicist ideal. His classic idealer and life-close style became trend-setting for the 19th century.
