The Dutch sculptor Evert den Hartog convincingly combines weightlessness and earthiness in his works. He received his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam and discovered his passion for bronze sculptures in the 1980s. His subjects are primarily drawn from the animal kingdom and ancient mythology, depicted with tremendous joie de vivre and dynamism. His work is also characterized by Dutch humor, which lends the bronze sculptures an unexpected lightness. Evert den Hartog presents his extensive oeuvre to a wide audience in galleries in the Netherlands and Germany. A standout masterpiece is his lovestruck elephant, which seems almost to float with bliss and is said to bring good luck and ward off all worries.
