Image "Cologne, The Arrival of a Packet Boat: Evening" (1826), framed
A year after he presented the "The Harbor of Dieppe", which was also created in 1826, in the Royal Academy, William Turner exhibited his work "Cologne". As a former Roman colony during the Holy Roman Empire, the free imperial city of Cologne was a significant commercial, education and religious center for a long time. During his visit, the city was still largely medieval.
