The artistic work of Stefan Szczesny, born in Munich in 1951, shapes contemporary art. A scholarship in Paris and residencies in New York, at the Villa Massimo in Rome, in the South of France, and in the Caribbean had a lasting impact on his work. Szczesny was instrumental in the "Young Wild Ones" movement, which rediscovered expressive, figurative painting towards the end of the 1970s. In the meantime, he developed a distinctive style that conveys lightness and cheerfulness. Inspired by artists such as Matisse and Picasso, Szczesny focuses on classical themes such as nudes and still lifes in his paintings. The artist focuses on a sensual, colorful representational approach. His paintings merge nature and culture in their most extreme form. Szczesny's works have been shown in numerous museum, solo, and group exhibitions worldwide. A special highlight was the retrospective "Métamorphoses méditerranéennes" at the Papal Palace in Avignon in 2014, featuring more than 250 exhibits. Stefan Szczesny is considered one of Europe's most important contemporary artists today.
