Valerie Otte's bronze figures rarely present actual portraits, but rather sensitive character studies. They offer the viewer no pose, but rather a glimpse of people to whom one involuntarily attributes an emotional inner life. Otte's figures are completely at peace, so that the viewer feels as if they are witnessing an intimate moment. Nevertheless, they are "in the world," which is particularly evident in her work "In Thoughts of You": The young woman sits lost in thought on a chair—perhaps in a quiet apartment, perhaps in a bustling café—and gazes pensively at her cell phone. Perhaps she is still hesitating to call a dear, missed person, perhaps she is looking at a photo of her. But without a doubt, her thoughts are connected to the outside world. Valerie Otte grants the viewer a deep insight into the mind of her protagonist. About Valerie Otte: Insight into the Human Soul Otte's art—as is often the case in figurative sculpture—can be described as a play of the eyes at a distance. The prerequisite: precise observation. First, on the artist's side. She incorporates into her work everything she saw in the world as a subtle stirring of emotion, a small gesture, or a moment of truth, and imbues it with her works. The viewer, on the other hand, "reads" these traces cast in bronze and soon no longer sees mere sculptures, but personalities. It's a game that educates—not only for art, but also for the world. Valerie Otte (*1977) studied sculpture and art history in London and Berlin. She then followed this with a diploma in product design in Potsdam—this, in sum, describes the approach and versatility of her work.
