It must have been a great adventure for the farmers' boy from Nolde: from the beginning of October 1913 to the summer of 1914, he accompanied the "Medical-Demographic German New Guinea Expedition". The artist Nolde focused entirely on people, he drew and watercolored her and was fascinated by her rituals.

He was able to attend a royal festival on Java. He, who had completed an apprenticeship as a wood carver in his youth, impressed him, the dancers and her to the smallest emotion of controlled appearance so much that he dealt with her grace in characters from firewood on the intermediate trips.
