Unless you already consider yourself an experienced art buyer, dealer, or collector, you'll undoubtedly before making a potential art purchase . There are a few specific things to keep in mind, especially when buying abstract art online.

You've found this post, so I assume you're a keen fan of abstract art to share my knowledge and experience as the owner of the online art gallery Kunstplaza

I am personally convinced that an abstract painting is a wonderful choice for beautifying or enhancing a room for several reasons. Non-figurative works never become boring and always spark new ideas. They fit well with modern interiors, and powerful abstractions fill a room with vibrant energy.

Choosing an abstract artwork, especially if you are considering buying one online, can sometimes turn into a difficult undertaking, as there are so many artworks for sale.

Art platforms offer tens of thousands of abstract paintings, drawings, and prints in various styles and sizes. So how do you choose the right one for you?

The decision becomes much easier once you know exactly what you want (what kind of effect, style, color scheme and media), and how much money you want to spend on your online purchase of an abstract image .

Let's go into a little more detail together…

Your personal budget and price ranges for abstract art

The price of a work of art is determined by several factors: whether it is an original painting or an art print (and what is the limited edition or how many copies are available), size, framing, and of course, the artist's name. Paintings created by prominent figures in the art world can cost millions.

But those talented and up-and-coming artists who live in your neighborhood and are not (yet) so famous would sell a painting at a truly affordable price.

Let's look at the price ranges, starting with the cheapest artworks.

1. The cheapest option is printable art

You can bring a wonderful work of art into your home for a fraction of the price, but you have to print the artwork yourself. With your purchase, you only receive a digital copy of the original work and the license to print it. This modern digital art form has several advantages.

Prices for downloadable and printable artwork start at just a few euros per piece . Purchasing such artwork is quite simple – files are available for download immediately after payment, and you only need to decide where and in what size you want to print it.

If you don't want to do it yourself on your home printer, you can either go to a copy shop or choose one of the many online providers.

2. Tight budget? Choose abstract art prints.

If you don't enjoy printing and framing your own artwork, art prints definitely an affordable option. Prices for prints also vary depending on the format, medium, print run, and artist.

Modern technology offers many possibilities for art lovers. Artwork can be printed on paper, canvas, and even unusual media such as wood or aluminum composite panels.

Prices for high-quality, limited-edition prints start at around one hundred euros. They can up to several thousand euros (or even much more if the artist is a celebrity and the edition is tiny).

If you opt for an abstract print, pay attention to high quality. I would recommend focusing on limited edition prints so that the artwork you own is more unique and therefore more valuable, and hopefully will continue to appreciate in value. Art prints can also be an investment .

I'm personally a big fan of giclée prints on canvas, and the main reason is that they can be hung stretched and, unlike prints on paper, don't require framing with glass. This, in turn, means that the artwork has no reflections.

I also like the texture of canvas, but you have to keep in mind that not all artwork looks good on this medium, and it might be more advantageous to print it on a flat surface. It really depends on the artwork. The Kunstplaza online gallery offers numerous limited-edition prints on canvas and some on paper. Just take a look at the different prints yourself if you'd like to better understand the differences.

3. Would you prefer a unique piece? Then only original abstract artworks are suitable for you.

Okay, so you've decided that prints aren't for you when you can buy original abstract paintings. Smart choice! Unique artworks are always special because they're handmade, one-of-a-kind, and many times more valuable than limited-edition art prints.

The good news is that you can find unique pieces that fit your budget, as there are many affordable abstract artworks on the market. However, if you can afford a piece by an established, professional artist, you should definitely do so. It will enrich your collection and increase in value over time.

You can buy a small, original abstract painting for one hundred or two hundred euros . Popular works by well-known artists fetch prices of hundreds of thousands or even millions of euros . Auction records at Christie’s and Sotheby’s continue to reach new heights.

Artwork on paper, canvas or cardboard?

I would now like to talk about different types of original artworks, as each of them has its own unique characteristics.

Works on paper

I think this is one of the most overlooked media. There are so many reasons why I would recommend exploring abstract art on paper.

Abstract drawings and paintings on paper are an excellent way to start a contemporary art collection. They are affordable yet original, don't take up much space, and several can be combined to create a charming gallery wall.

Painting on canvas

The most traditional painting technique is oil or acrylic on canvas, and due to its durability over time, it is probably the most popular medium among artists and art buyers. When you buy a work of art created on canvas, you can be sure that it will last for generations.

Of course, paintings on canvas are more expensive than those on paper, but here too it depends on the professionalism and reception of the artist.

Art styles and movements

The art style or also the direction in artworks refers to the uniform expression of the artworks and cultural products of an era, an artist or an artist group, an art movement, or an art school.

This is a tool for categorising and systematising the diversity of art. It denotes similarities that distinguish it from others.

The term is thematically related to the Art Movement, but it should not be viewed solely within a temporal framework and is therefore much broader.

In this section, we would like to help you gain a better understanding of styles and movements in art.
