About the artist Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was a renowned Austrian Symbolist painter and a leading figure in the Vienna Secession, an Art Nouveau movement. Born into poverty, he trained at the Vienna School of Applied Arts for Art and Industry. Initially controversial for his erotic art, Klimt rebelled by founding the Vienna Secession.

He eventually gained recognition and became a professor in Munich and Vienna. Klimt's distinctive style was characterized by symbolism, eroticism, and exquisite decorativeism, with a focus on women and a profound sense of color. He drew inspiration from Jan Toorop and influenced artists such as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. His works, including "The Kiss" and "The Tree of Life ," demonstrated his mastery of gold and continue to be highly praised.
