Classification of the terms “Gobelin” and “Tapestry”

Originally, the term "Gobelin" referred only to fabrics (woven pictures) produced at the "Manufacture des Gobelins" in Paris. However, it is important to distinguish between woven Gobelins (tapestry tapestries handwoven in manufactories) and embroidered Gobelins (fine, hand-embroidered tapestries known as petit point).

Tapestry (or pictorial weaving) is the generic term for handwoven pictorial carpets. Although Gobelin has become the common term for high-quality tapestries, this particular item is, strictly speaking, a handwoven tapestry.

Jim Zuckerman has been a leading figure in the international photography world for over 50 years. His zoological background gives him a decisive advantage in wildlife photography: a deep understanding of animal behavior that allows him to capture extremely intimate and dynamic moments. Besides wildlife, he is passionate about indigenous cultures, historical architecture, and the epic landscapes of the world.
