Sculpture “Sneeuwuil – Snowy Owl” by Evert den Hartog, bronze grey
Sculpture “Sneeuwuil – Snowy Owl”, bronze grey
“Frozen Moments” is the aptly chosen title of a book about Evert den Hartog’s work. The artist captures the tension of the moment, particularly in his animal depictions, like few others. Even with his snowy owl, the viewer almost expects it to glide silently past at any moment.
Sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost-wax process, hand-patinated in gray and polished. Limited worldwide edition of 99 pieces, individually numbered and bearing the Hartogs signature emblem. Dimensions approx. 33 x 35 x 24 cm (H/W/D). On a diabase base, dimensions 4 x 19.5 x 18 cm (H/W/D). Total weight approx. 9 kg.

Evert den Hartog, born in 1949 in Groot-Ammers, Netherlands, received his artistic training from 1971 to 1976 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Initially, he primarily created ceramic sculptures until he discovered his passion for bronze in the early 1980s. The subject matter of his works is drawn primarily from the animal world, whose multifaceted motifs are rooted in ancient mythology. Evert den Hartog captures these creatures in poses of seemingly weightless lightness. The Dutch sculptor has embraced the challenge of uniting weightlessness and a connection to the earth.
