Have you recently taken the plunge and moved into a new apartment? Perhaps you've been longing for this fresh start for a long time and now want to decorate your new home with your unique style.

Or do you even harbor the desire to give your previous apartment a fresh shine and transform it into an oasis of well-being?

Perhaps you are also looking for a thoughtful and unique gift for friends or family members who are starting a new phase of life or simply deserve some special attention?

The design of your living spaces plays a crucial role in how comfortable you feel at home. It's not just about choosing furniture or colors; it's about incorporating your personal preferences and ideas. The individual furnishings of your rooms should reflect your personality and create an atmosphere where you enjoy spending time.

This can be achieved primarily through wall decoration. Stylish decoration using paintings by popular artists, art prints on canvas , or hand-painted oil offers a unique opportunity to decorate your home according to your taste and visually enhance your apartment.

Don't just buy it, celebrate it!

This should be the motto when designing interiors with art and design objects.

Art is one of the most beautiful forms of human expression; through creative skill and imagination, it reflects life, culture, and emotions. Decorating with art reflects not only the splendor of the artwork but also its meaning and emotion

Regardless of style – from modern to Art Deco – an artistic atmosphere is always inviting, especially in living spaces, where it can be the perfect addition, adding a touch of personality and beauty. Decorating a room with art can create the ideal mood, provide an extra level of visual interest, unify the colors in a room, and spark engaging conversations.

Art is a great way to give interiors a unique flair, tell stories, and much more.

How to decorate stylishly with art? Discover our ideas for a unique interior design.

Artful decoration plays an essential role in interior design. There are hardly any situations in which a home wouldn't benefit from works of art, even if you follow a very minimalist approach .

Artwork lends vitality to rooms, bringing character and individuality that cannot be truly achieved with any other form of decoration. A carefully selected piece of art is far more than just the finishing touch: it has the potential to fundamentally transform the look and feel of a room and bring joy for many years to come.

But where does one begin when selecting and presenting artwork ? First and foremost, it goes without saying that the first step is to choose pieces that you like. However, figuring out how best to decorate your home with art can be a challenge.

To give you ideas on how to select and display art for your living spaces, we've compiled a variety of ways you can incorporate it into your project. We've also included some expert tips on optimal presentation.

Where do you start when decorating with art?

Without art, everything remains incomplete. It is what shapes the space.”

explains Martin Waller , the globally active interior designer and founder of Andrew Martin .

Don't be afraid to integrate modern art into a classical space or vice versa; often it is the combination of seemingly incompatible styles that unfolds beauty through unexpected elements.”

When it comes to decorating spaces with art, there are hardly any fixed rules; almost anything is possible. Whether you want to create an ambiance around a specific artwork or are looking for a wall design to enhance a room:

Always choose your art out of passion. Hopefully, it should accompany you for a lifetime, so that you can still enjoy it in ten years or in a different home

Clara Ewart , Head of Design at Kitesgrove emphasizes this point . As any curator will tell you, the way artworks are framed and presented can completely alter their meaning. It can also spark a fresh dialogue about how they are perceived in relation to other artworks. This is an aspect you should always consider when designing with art.

Basic considerations for interior design and the selection of art

01 Consider the size and layout of the premises.

Regardless of the type of room you have, the first thing you should do is define the dimensions of the area you want to decorate. Your artwork(s) should blend harmoniously into the room's composition – you can approach the color scheme in a similar way.

Take a photo of the room and its surrounding furnishings and bring both the photo and the dimensions to the gallery. If you want to convey a powerful message with artwork, consider the scale and size of the furniture and accessories.

The first option is to select a piece of art that complements the existing decor, and the second is to create a composition that focuses on your chosen artwork. The crucial point, however, is to ensure a dialogue between the artwork and the other design choices.

In this context, you plan how you want to integrate the images into your layout. Numerous small elements can clutter the overall image, while striking shapes enhance it.

02 Work with the existing interior design style

Although a work of art conveys a powerful message, it's important to maintain the decorative style of other elements in your room. This can work both ways. You might own a treasured piece that forms the basis for the entire room concept. Pay attention to the style, color scheme, and texture of the object and develop your design from there.

For example: “If the room you want to decorate has a lot of exposed wood, you should think carefully about how you frame your artwork. You should consider both the finish and the choice of color.”.

Consider the atmosphere (the feeling) in the rooms. Art is about emotions. So before you decide on a particular piece of art to decorate your living room, you should first consider what emotions you want to evoke in the room.

Depending on the atmosphere you are aiming for, you can choose the type of artwork that better suits the requirements of the room.

03. Pay attention to the color scheme

Taking into account the dimensions and the room's atmosphere, we now move on to the color scheme . When decorating with art, you must ensure that it matches the color scheme.

You can proceed in two directions :

  1. Firstly, by choosing a piece that matches your living room palette,
  2. and secondly, by thinking about art as the element that determines the spatial concept.

A favorite work of art can be an excellent source of inspiration for the color scheme of your living space.

There are different approaches to decorating with art. For some, art can be a striking starting point, while others see it more as a finishing touch and want to select pieces that interact harmoniously with walls and furniture.

If you are thinking about creating a color scheme, Andrew Martin recommends:

Identify one or two of the most intense colors in your room and reflect them in your chosen artwork. Alternatively, you can select a color from your artwork that you wish to emphasize by using the same shade for cushions and other upholstered furniture

He continues:

The same principle applies to shapes; for example, a round shape in a picture can be echoed with a spherical vase or a sculptural lamp.”
