Design, furniture, or interior design brands exhibiting at trade fairs choose their cities, which in turn influences the dates, target audience, and investment required. A booth in Milan demands different planning than one in Frankfurt or Barcelona, and the decision is usually made well in advance of the fair.

This overview briefly outlines two major dates and then goes into more detail about Barcelona: the trade fairs that are important there for design, construction and architecture, and what exhibitors from outside should clarify early on.

Milan and Frankfurt: the known dates

Salone del Mobile.Milano is considered a global benchmark for furniture and design. The next edition will take place from April 13 to 18, 2027, at the Fiera Milano exhibition center in Rho.

Ambiente, the leading international consumer goods trade fair according to Messe Frankfurt, will take place in Frankfurt am Main from January 29 to February 2, 2027. It is a fixed date in the year for lifestyle brands

Both trade fairs are established major events. Anyone wishing to exhibit there should therefore clarify space and stand planning well in advance.

Barcelona: a trade fair city with two venues

Fira de Barcelona operates two exhibition centers: Gran Via in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Montjuïc in Barcelona. Construmat is particularly interesting for brands in the construction, architecture, and interior design sectors.

It will take place from May 18 to 20, 2027, at the Gran Via exhibition center. The organizers anticipate more than 400 exhibitors, 13,500 square meters of exhibition space, and 22,500 professionals for the 2027 event, having expanded the exhibition area by 23 percent compared to the last edition. According to the organizers, brands already booked include Roca, Saloni, and Technal.

Hostelco is also available for restaurant and hotel brands . The next edition is scheduled for March 20-23, 2028.

Only space booked? Then work begins at the stand

at Construmat can book a stand space starting at 20 square meters : bare floor space without any additional elements. The design, production, and assembly of the stand are then the responsibility of the exhibiting brand.

For brands traveling from further afield, a local partner therefore more than just a convenience. A company in Barcelona can coordinate design and production close to the exhibition grounds and oversee the setup. Anyone looking for a partner for exhibition stand construction in Barcelona should involve them in the planning early on, even before the stand concept is finalized.

What the trade fair demands of stand builders

The trade fair itself also sets rules. In the Construmat , it states that the project must be approved by the fair's technical team before construction begins. Technical regulations and building codes are available there.

Furthermore, stand builders and equipment for setup and dismantling must register in order to be allowed to enter the grounds. This seems like a formality, but it costs time if it's only done shortly before setup.

Specific requirements such as heights, material classes, or deadlines vary depending on the trade fair and venue. They should always be consulted in the regulations applicable to the respective event.

How brands choose the right trade fair city

A simple sequence helps: first clarify who the brand wants to meet at the trade fair, then choose the appropriate date, and only then decide on the booth size and design. Milan and Frankfurt appeal to a broad design and consumer goods audience, while Barcelona, with Construmat, access to professionals from the construction and architecture sectors.

Those planning with a fixed budget should also factor in travel, transport, and setup. The further away the trade fair is, the earlier the stand design should be finalized.
