Retrospective in Munich
The major retrospective on Rebecca Horn is still running in Munich until October 13th, overlapping with this exhibition.
The Haus der Kunst in Munich is currently showing a comprehensive retrospective of the complete works of the German artist. Her multifaceted oeuvre, spanning six decades, explores the essence of existence and the convergence of nature, technology, and humanity.
She primarily sees herself as a choreographer who creates complex interplay between space, light, sound, and physicality. The exhibition "Rebecca Horn" at the Haus der Kunst in Munich documents her career from early works on paper to her current productions, placing a particular emphasis on performativity.
Her art combines aspects of literature, art history and film, embodying the connection between humanity, machines, animals and the earth, thus enabling a direct experience of life through the body.
Curated by Jana Baumann together with Radia Soukni, the exhibition highlights Horn's lifelong exploration of the changing role of man in the world.
“Landscapes” by Barbara Klemm (Galerie Peter Sillem, Frankfurt am Main)
Photography enthusiasts should consider a trip to Frankfurt am Mainbetween September 7th and October 19th
Since the 1960s, the photojournalist has attentively observed and photographed events in the metropolis on the Main River. She not only documented history but also reinterpreted it herself – whether in relation to her contemporaries or her own surroundings. The renowned Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung once aptly remarked:
Her small Leica is always within easy reach at the bottom of her handbag.
Many of her impressive photographs of streets, cities and people from all over the world were taken under these conditions: Even after the completion of the editorial assignment and the purpose of the trip, she kept the camera firmly in her hand.
Her photographs from the NPD's federal election campaign in July 1969 became particularly well-known and garnered international attention: The image of a portly, helmeted NPD steward in front of the Frankfurt Volksbühne was published in the local section of the FAZ and also reprinted in Der Spiegel , Paris Match , and the Observer . These images had a considerable impact and contributed to the party's failure to clear the five percent threshold.

Klemm's photographs of the Frankfurt student movement, as well as those of Adorno and Horkheimer, also quickly gained national and international recognition. Unlike her colleagues, she showed a genuine interest in the students' concerns and took the time to gain deeper insights.
Barbara Klemm is a photojournalist with a keen sense for the perfect moment and a strong personal and photographic connection to Frankfurt.
This photographer clearly has a keen eye for historical events. The exhibition at the Peter Sillem Gallery now allows visitors to discover another side of Klemm's talent.
Her striking black and white photographs capture the beauty of landscapes and perfectly convey the emotional message they embody. The monochrome palette allows viewers to focus on form, light, and shadow, reflecting the changing relationship between nature and humankind.
