White Christmas: The trend and art idea for the Christmas room
The famous “White Christmas”, which adults so often swear they ALWAYS experienced in their childhood, is in reality an extremely rare event in our latitudes – and has been “always”, with “always” referring to the time since the beginning of regular weather records.
The fact that this "White Christmas" is actually about as likely in Germany as passing on appropriate oil price reductions to the consumer has slowly become common knowledge everywhere in the internet age.
It is therefore understandable that the producers of Christmas decorations eventually discovered that nature does not satisfy the longing for a "white Christmas" and that they can step in: The "white winter forest in the home" was declared the Christmas decoration trend of 2014 by the EFSA (European floral and lifestyle suppliers association, association of interior decorators) .

"Pure Perfect," and it's meant to be modern and minimalist, featuring various shades of white, silver, and very light green. Ice crystals on the window and snowballs (without a prescribed location) have been declared a "must-have." The entire decoration should have something to do with snow and winter forests; many white decorative items and lots of glitter are available in stores, and even artificial snowy owls have been spotted at interior design fairs.
Good news for you, because you can easily make "Pure Perfect" yourself in no time, with inexpensive ingredients and lots of fun:
Various shades of white can be used to create a snowy landscape with a collection of bed sheets or the harvest-forcing fleece from the last garden season or white wallpaper (base made of cardboard, for example), perhaps creatively "tinted" with washable paints, silver is contributed by aluminum foil or the foil on the quark packaging, very light green is brought in by many plants from cress to poinsettia, which can also be accented with red.
Ice crystals can be cut from the walls of a Tetra Pak and hung in the window; snowballs can be made from polystyrene balls with modeling bandage (see YouTube video) or from cotton wool (brigitte.de) or from white wool.
If you want to go all out – here you will find templates of your personal snowy owl, to print out, cut from cardboard and paint white, and instructions for a snowy owl made from woolen threads.
Whitewash a few more branches and wrap them with fairy lights, or make a few houses out of cardboard, paint them white, and illuminate the windows (covered with colorful tissue paper) from the inside with LED tea lights or mini fairy lights , arrange everything nicely, and you have a magnificent white winter landscape…
Want more "pure coziness"?
If the description of the “Pure Perfect”scenario conjures up images of hundreds of chocolate-smeared toddler hands turning “pure perfection” into “smeared dissolution”, then this trend might not be quite right for you.
No matter, interior decorators have already thought of that and "natural-looking Christmas decorations" the second Christmas decoration trend of 2014: "Materials and motifs from the forest have served as inspiration for the industry," explained an industry representative at a relevant trade fair. "It's really noticeable that real pine cones and branches are now being used."
What, you've been doing that for years, roughly since your eldest turned three?
Well, the market caters to the tastes of the masses, which are carefully researched, so the process of generating ideas simply takes longer… we believe you without question that you do crafts with your children, after all, you read an art blog and are therefore one of those people who enjoy creativity – but it should at least be mentioned that you are currently right on trend…
But you probably prefer to create your own trends anyway, and your Christmas tree will look completely different – in which case we are happy if we were able to contribute some creative suggestions and wish you
Have a wonderful Advent and a Merry Christmas!
