Coffee and milk foam: Let your creativity run free

True coffee lovers know that serving an exquisite cup of coffee is an art in itself. This requires not only high-quality beans, such as those from the Hessen coffee roastery, but also the optimal preparation process. Latte art then represents the ultimate challenge in the realm of café latte or cappuccino.

Baristas create can essentially give free rein to their creativity to create true works of art in the cup. For example, they can use the milk foam to rosettes, fern leaves, flowers, hearts , or perhaps even the Eiffel Tower .

Basically, the art of coffee making requires little more than a little patience and practice.

The tools for latte art

To transform coffee into a true work of art, however, certain equipment is essential. This includes not only an espresso machine and a milk frother, but also a large cappuccino cup and a milk jug.

The milk jug shouldn't be too small, as the larger the jug, the better the milk foam will be. Ideally, a milk jug with a capacity of approximately 400 milliliters is needed for a cup of cappuccino.

A well-shaped spout is also important. Ideally, the spout of the pot should taper to a point. True coffee also exclusively use high-quality stainless steel pots.

Choosing the right milk

Espresso forms the basis of the art of coffee making. Its crema must be as dense as possible. Therefore, experienced baristas generally use a strong espresso blend with a dark roast and a high proportion of Robusta beans.

With this combination, the crema is hazelnut brown and very dense. This makes it the ideal flavor carrier for the cappuccino with its impressive latte art. Pure Arabica blends are less suitable, as the crema breaks down too quickly.

However, it's not just about a perfect crema, but above all, about ideal milk foam. Passionate coffee connoisseurs particularly like to use fresh whole milk. Its delicate sweetness not only harmonizes perfectly with the coffee aroma, but also forms the basis of a suitable milk foam.

However, the type of milk frother also plays a role. Ideally, the steam wand of an espresso machine should be used to ensure the foam is dense, creamy, and not too stiff. The milk must also be cold so that its temperature does not rise above 65 degrees Celsius during frothing.

Coffee cup art: The right swing is crucial

How impressive the finished artwork in the coffee cup ultimately is depends primarily on the correct pouring technique for the milk foam. The tip of the milk pitcher ensures a precise stream when pouring.

It is important to ensure that the milk foam can spread out beneath the crema. The pattern will then be formed by a flawless swirl.

This requires the right technique, which definitely takes a little practice. Artistic designs are created by moving the jug evenly back and forth while pouring.

Popular latte art designs

The basic latte art motifs are heart, tulip and rosetta.

In addition to tutorials on these classics, the following video shows how heart, tulip and rosetta can be combined to Wing Heartcreate
