You should always be able to enjoy your own home. This naturally also applies to the room decoration and the pictures on the wall. But what's the best way to go about it if you want to take a fresh look at your walls?

A photo gallery would be a nice idea, however there are a few points to consider when implementing it.

Planning right from the start

A cohesive gallery wall cannot be hung without planning . First, you should decide where the wall will be located. Beautiful new posters won't do much good if you can't display them effectively in the right place.

The most popular places for a gallery of pictures are the walls behind seating such as sofas, or even behind beds. The centers of the pictures should be positioned at a height of approximately 1.60 meters, as this allows for optimal viewing whether standing or sitting.

Even if you've already chosen the right pictures and the location, you can't just blindly hang them on the wall. First, you should try out a possible arrangement of the different pictures on the floor. Once you've found the right arrangement, you still need to be careful when hanging them.

When drilling holes for heavier pictures and frames, always check beforehand that you are not accidentally drilling into an electrical wire.

Which frame fits?

The pictures themselves are only half the story; it's the right frame that truly brings the artwork to life. There are no limits to creativity here, as frames come in all sizes, colors, shapes, and materials. The important thing is that all the frames in a gallery wall share a consistent style.

If the frames also match the rest of the design, not much can go wrong. Frames made of natural materials like wood are very popular again and can be further personalized. The more individual, the better, because that way you can express your own personal taste in your picture gallery.

What format should the gallery have?

Various grids can for gallery walls to create a new sense of space. It's important to remember that the pictures shouldn't be viewed in isolation; the gallery only truly works when all the individual elements function together. Depending on the content, a few centimeters of space should be left between the pictures.

When you have images in different formats, you can also choose between horizontal and vertical arrangements. It's important to note that you can align the images either along the top or bottom edge. Orientation along the center axis is also possible. Ultimately, it depends on the chosen location and personal taste.

The content of the images is also crucial. Especially when it comes to typographic accents , the images must be arranged in such a way that a stranger can immediately understand the intention behind hanging them. While you can find inspiration for gallery layouts , the individual touch ultimately makes all the difference.

In this "How to" episode, "Designing a Gallery Wall," Ben from INTERIYEAH! shows you how to hang pictures perfectly. Ben answers the questions: Which pictures go best together? What types of picture frames are available? Inside the Lines, edge, staircase, salon hanging, etc.: How can you combine pictures to create a stylish gallery wall?

Whether rectangular, strictly geometric, black or white, large, small, round, oval or colorful, you should always think about how you want to attach picture frames to the wall beforehand.

For example, to arrange pictures that have been collected over a long time, inherited, and acquired at the flea market in a beautiful and balanced way on the wall surface, it is recommended to first spread everything out on the floor and arrange it as a test.
