The Swiss painter and sculptor Jean Tinguely became famous primarily for his kinetic metal sculptures. As early as 1944, he began designing expansive, machine-like objects, thus becoming an important pioneer of contemporary art in the 20th century. From the 1960s onward, Tinguely exhibited regularly worldwide, including three appearances at documenta and at MoMA in New York.
