Bronze sculpture “Metamorphosis” by Maria-Luise Bodirsky
Drawing strength from constant change: Maria-Luise Bodirsky's "Metamorphosis"
Since 1994, the artist has dedicated herself to the theme of metamorphosis. Ovid's epic poem "Metamorphoses"—transformation stories from ancient mythology about birth and death—fascinates her and inspires her to create works exploring different states of being. Every phase of life involves letting go of the old and the possibility of a new beginning.

The fundamental elements of earth, water, fire, and air are what sculptor and ceramicist Maria-Luise Bodirsky, born in 1952, connects in her sculptures and working process. Clay is her primary means of expression as she captures, explores, and depicts the inner and outer circumstances of her figures. Bodirsky draws inspiration for her archaic-looking figures from early human history, Egyptian civilization, Greek mythology, and the Old Testament, as well as from modern literature such as that of Pablo Neruda.
