genesis

The online project Kunstplaza was launched in 2015 with the mission of creating an online platform for artists, art dealers, patrons, collectors, institutions, galleries, museums, initiatives and art enthusiasts of all kinds in German-speaking countries and beyond.

At that time, traditional art galleries determined the visibility and often the success of visual artists.

We were convinced that there was an urgent need to create a virtual hub for creative and art-loving people, enabling them to present and sell their work to interested individuals in a simple, straightforward and direct way.

On the other hand, art dealers and collectors benefit when artists exhibit their work together in one place. This allows them to acquire artworks – often directly from the artist. It also makes it possible to discover talented young artists who are just beginning to write their creative success stories.

At the same time, we also see great potential in offering creative people the opportunity and space to exchange ideas, network, organize themselves, or support each other with advice and practical help.

To meet these needs, we created the online gallery (art marketplace) .

An idea was born

Alongside his full-time job, founder Joachim Rodriguez y Romero developed the idea of creating a platform for artists that not only understood but also took seriously the needs of artists.

From the initial idea, it takes many months until a concept and an economically viable business plan are finally developed.

From then on, the concept was refined and work on its implementation continued month after month.

3 years later

After three grueling years, the time had finally come. Kunstplaza saw the light of day.

Go Live

The website went online in its first version. Gradually, features, extensions, and improvements were added.

The online gallery, artist community and art blog were available for the first time.

Main occupation

Originally run as a leisure project and then as a side business, Kunstplaza became the main source of income in 2017.

This enabled a greater focus on and investment in the development and expansion of the platform

What makes Kunstplaza so unique?

We at Kunstplaza want to get to the heart of the needs and expectations of creative and art-loving people and set ourselves high goals in order to meet them.

You're probably already aware that there are countless websites, forums, shops, and marketplaces for art, crafts, design, and creative work on the internet. So why do we need yet another art portal?

Of course, we took a close look at these platforms and portals. In most cases, however, we found several things missing.

Firstly, we could not find a comprehensive portal that offered a complete range of functions, from the presentation of artworks, the introduction and marketing of one's own profile (including social profiles), the linking of various social channels, the procurement of helpful information, the trading of art as well as tips and advice on the art trade, to the productive exchange and networking of artists and art enthusiasts.

Furthermore, we have noticed an increasing tendency towards commercialization on large and widely used portals, which makes it more difficult for the artists active there to stand out from the mass of industrially or mass-produced goods and ultimately to live off their art.

We suspect one reason for this development is the increasing economic pressure from investors or shareholders who expect a certain return on their investments and are driving the monetization of their projects.

We want to avoid this situation at Kunstplaza . Of course, in an economic environment, we too depend on revenue and a solid financial foundation. However, we refuse to subordinate our original project idea and the concept of Kunstplaza to mere profit-seeking.

Therefore, we want to make our prices and fee structure as fair as possible in order to create a good and sustainable solution for all parties involved, without losing our ability to invest.

Our understanding of “Perpetual Beta”

Although the hype and media coverage surrounding Web 2.0 are long gone, we would like to adopt the concept of "Perpetual Beta," , and focus our actions on it. This means that we continuously work on the further development and improvement of the Kunstplaza platform.

We are always open to criticism and suggestions from our members and users. We are very interested in maintaining an open dialogue, as we do not presume to know all the needs of everyone involved in advance or to be able to meet them all accordingly.

Since we do not have financially strong investors behind us and want to remain independent in the future, we would like to ask for your understanding if not all concepts, improvements, expansions and requests can be implemented immediately.

We are doing our best to process these requests gradually and meet your expectations as quickly as possible.
