Artist Paul Cheng sought to capture a fleeting moment somewhere between memory and dream—a tranquil, solitary atmosphere with a touch of gentle melancholy. To enhance this feeling, he used a monochromatic blue palette, freezing time on the canvas. The figure's downward gaze and the subtle ripples on the water engage in a silent dialogue, suggesting inner turmoil. In the painting process, Cheng combined impasto with drybrush techniques, allowing the background and figure to remain clearly recognizable yet subtly blend, creating a misty forest and a cool, tangible sense of water.
