His impressive statues, wall reliefs and fountains have made the Baden artist Rainer Stiefvater internationally known. His latest work is a homage to the beauty of creation that was only published in a small edition. Based on the sculptures of the Freiburg cathedral, stepfather refers to archaic mystery cults and their natural cultural roots, including the Magna Mater, who is revered for her spring festivals. The stylized growth rings on their shoulders symbolize this cycle, while a lizard on her back is interpreted as a sign of dark powers since the high Middle Ages.

Edition in polymer bound art marble. Edition 49 copies. Height 165 cm.

Rainer Stieffather, a Bader painter and sculptor, born in 1943, began his career after an apprenticeship as a stove seter and tiler. However, he quickly decided on the visual art and completed training at the Basel arts and crafts school and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In over 40 years as a freelance artist, he created a diverse work that includes sculptures, statues, wall reliefs, fountains and material images - both in abstract and figurative forms. In addition to numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, he also realized public orders, including sculptures for the city of Freiburg.
