Among the best-known creations of Gustav Nonnenmacher, who died in December 2012 at the age of 98, is a memorial in Worms dedicated to the victims of the World Wars, which also reflects his lifelong engagement with his own wartime experiences. In addition, the artist created works of admirable grace, such as the Winegrowers' Fountain – also in Worms – as well as fountain figures, including this heron, slightly abstracted into a spherical form, yet instantly recognizable.
