Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) was an Italian painter, graphic artist and sculptor, who mainly focused on portraits and files. His works are characterized by rushed, stylized forms that cause a melancholic-lyrical mood. The delicate colors give the female bodies volume and expression. African sculptures influenced his style from 1909, but Modigliani fully slipped the avant -garde currents of his time; He was only inspired by fauvism and cubism. Together with Marc Chagall and Chaim Soutine, he developed his own artistic approach that put the psychological moment in the foreground. With his portraits, Modigliani wanted to present the character of his models - often friends from the Parisian intellectual group. The use of warm ocher and yellow tones as well as fresco-like color orders is a tribute to the Florentine-Sienese painting. In his work, grace and melancholy combine to become an urgent sensitivity. Tragically, Modigliani suffered from health problems and alcohol and drug addiction, which led to his early death at only 35 years.
