The ginkgo unique in the plant world and the fact that there are male and female trees has made the Ginkgo a symbol of harmony and partnership for thousands of years. The slim emerging growth form of the ginkgo represents the yang after Asian philosophy, and is equated with activity and vitality, while the leaves represent the yin, i.e. gentleness and softness due to their fan -like shape.
