About Auguste Renoir 1841-1919: The entire oeuvre of Renoir, who was born in Limoges in 1841, is characterized by his unwavering belief in the life-giving power of nature. The luminous colors of his landscapes and the sensual grace of his paintings of women and young girls, with their lighthearted cheerfulness, bear witness to this. Initially, Renoir worked as a porcelain painter and studied Antoine Watteau and François Boucher at the Louvre. In 1862, he began his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts, and then, at the end of the 1860s, under the influence of the Barbizon School, he turned to plein air painting. Together with Claude Monet, Frédéric Bazille, and Alfred Sisley, he discovered the unique advantages of painting outdoors and maintained close ties with Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. Like Claude Monet, he developed the loose brushstrokes so characteristic of Impressionism, which allowed him to capture the constantly changing colors in the light. In addition to landscapes, he also painted portraits, including those of his painter friends and his favorite model, Lise Tréhot.
