The artist on this work: "This is the second Frida Kahlo painting I've done in the last few weeks. I've been asked for years to try my own interpretation of the icon, but honestly, the idea was intimidating!!!! Finally, someone talked me into it, so... This painting is loosely based on one of the artist's self-portraits, in which she's holding a letter. My goal with this painting was to keep the background simple to ensure that Frida, in all her glory, is the focal point. (The most fun part of this work was designing Frida's outfit.) The edges of the canvas are painted so it can be hung unframed if desired."
