The artist on this work: "This is the second Frida Kahlo painting I've done in the past few weeks. I've been asked for years to attempt my own rendition of the icon, but honestly, the idea was intimidating!!!! Finally, someone talked me into it, so... This image is loosely based on one of the artist's self-portraits, in which she is holding a letter. My goal with this painting was to keep the background simple to ensure Frida, in all her glory, was the center of attention. (The most fun part of this project was designing Frida's outfit.) The edges of the canvas are painted, so it can be hung unframed if desired."
