Born in Nijmegen in 1969, Corné presents his work internationally. He employs a variety of styles, all of which share a common thread: the continuous exploration of the interplay of light and shadow. His preferred media are oil paints, dry pastels, and graphite pencils. For him, the focus is not on form or subject matter, but rather on how the planes vary a particular tonal quality and reflect light. Colors are relatively unimportant to him and can appear in any scheme. What is crucial is the tonal quality that consistently permeates his work, creating the illusion of depth and richness on a two-dimensional plane. Corné combines figurative representations with abstract elements, as neither alone can deliver the desired artistic statement that the public expects from an artist. Through exaggeration and deviations from the norm, he creates a distinctive color scheme and a broad tonal range to produce artworks that would remain recognizable even if the canvas or paper were torn to pieces.
