Caspar David Friedrich is considered the most important German Romantic painter, whose introspective connection to nature and religious sensibility make him a prime example of a Romantic artist. His richly detailed paintings radiate a metaphysical transparency, conveying not only external but also inner worlds. His landscapes, in particular, are central to his work and often depict solitary figures gazing longingly into distant scenes—inspired by extensive walks in nature.
