The fact that Vincent van Gogh could only sell one of his pictures during his lifetime is a myth, a few were probably. "The Red Weingarten in Arles" is the only one whose sale can be proven.
Original: 1888, oil on canvas, 75 x 93 cm, Puschkin-Museum, Moscow.
Reproduction using the Fine Art Giclée process directly onto artist's canvas and stretched onto a stretcher frame.
Limited edition: 980 copies.
Framed in a solid wood frame, white with a gold edge. Size 58 x 68 cm (H/W).
The importance of the picture had already noticed van Gogh's brother and supporter Theo. When the painter made him come together with other pictures, Theo was enthusiastic in a letter dated June 16, 1889: "There is a force of the color that you have not yet reached," he commented and informed his brother that the "Red Weingarten" had already found a place in his house.
