Work "One Plate, From: In The Bottom of My Garden (Fs. IV.92a)" (1956)
The work presented here is from the book "In the Bottom of My Garden," which features fairies and cherubs—these figures frolic against a monochrome background or in a garden among flowers, leaves, and fruit. The series combines both Warhol's commercial, illustrative background and the emerging Pop Art movement. The artist drew inspiration for these compositions from the children's book "Flower Fairies of the Autumn" by Cicely Mary Barker.
