About Marc Chagall
1887-1985-Russian-French painter
Marc Chagall is one of the greatest champions of the 20th century, who had a lasting impact on the art world with his work. A unique myth narrator of incredibly creative power - a painting poet.
The origin of his creations are the religious world of experience of his childhood, ancient myths and legends. His preferred beings are in love, enchanted and dreamy figures, weightless and reality. The light, open sign language, the tender hovering of the image motifs develop an attractive language of imagination. The viewer is overwhelmed by the harmony of the topic and the poetic beauty of the colors.
Marc Chagall describes his painting as the "happy vision of a desirable world" and sees her as a counterpart to reality.
Marc Chagall was born in 1887 as the son of Jewish parents in the Belarusian city of Witebsk. He is 20 years old when he goes to Saint Petersburg to study painting. For the first time he sees pictures of European modernism, and is so fascinated by them that he travels to Paris in 1910. In the "La Ruche" studio, he rents a tiny work room, his neighbors are Léger and Modigliani, he meets soutine, archipelago and the delaunays. Chagall lives in the middle of the avant-garde, but it is not the modern technology and the view to be interested, but how he can grasp the nostalgic-poetic world of his childhood memories most effectively.
When he sees the colors and shapes of the cubists, he knows that he can represent the rapture of the small town with their crooked wooden huts as well as the Jewish family celebrations, the Taumel first falling in love or the flying violinist as a symbol of Ahasvers, the restless Jew.
