Alex Solodov is a visual artist living in Portugal. He was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1971. Alex began painting and drawing at the age of 13. While studying at the Stroganov University of Arts in Moscow, he focused primarily on abstract, surreal, and expressionist painting and drawing styles. At the same time, he was inspired by the Indonesian batik dyeing technique and created many artworks in this style, using silk fabrics as his canvas. Currently, Alex mainly paints expressionist pop art portraits in sumi-e inkwash and watercolor painting techniques; many of his works are inspired by Japanese and Portuguese culture. He also enjoys traveling through Portugal and the island of Madeira, painting expressionist landscapes, cityscapes, and oceanscapes. More than 200 of Alex's artworks have been shown in private collections, corporate collections, and galleries worldwide (including over 100 sold here on Artfinder), in the UK, Australia, Germany, Lithuania, the US, Austria, France, Denmark, Russia, and Brazil. His recent exhibitions include: 2012 - Group exhibition "Cat People," St. Ink Gallery, Bucharest, Romania; 2011 - 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (parallel program, project "Invasion"), Art Play Design Center, Moscow, Russia; 2010 - Group exhibition at the Bo Sigvardson Gallery, Rodby, Denmark.
