Member of the "Brücke" and the "Berlin Secession", co -founder and president of the "New Secession", from 1923 also of the Prussian Academy of Arts and Professor. Max Pechstein's ascent was unmistakable. But then: 1933 Loss of Professor Status, 1937 exclusion from the academy, the verdict of "degenerate art", economic hardship, destruction of many works due to war effects. It was only in his late years after 1945 that he was recognized again. Max Pechstein has really led an eventful artist life. But there was a constant when you want a safe port in all of these confusion: over more than two decades from 1921-1945, he managed to spend his summer painting in Hinterpommern. We owe many of its most beautiful landscape work to these stays, such as his "Hafen of Leba", which was already created on his second visit and was supposed to follow numerous more.
