David Spiller
David Spiller (1942-2018) studied painting at the renowned London Slade School. In addition to his teacher Frank Auerbach, Spiller called Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet as an artist. Nevertheless, with the chosen motifs, their strong colors and the clear contours in combination with text snips, he clearly referred to the pop art. The lines of text for his playful and happy works were borrowed from his favorite songs and thus adds a personal level to the popular motifs.
His work is often exhibited alongside those of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Jim Dine.
