The Günter Grass, born in Danzig in 1927, is considered an important representative of German literature. In addition, he also made a name for himself as a sculptor, painter and graphic artist. Not without his own stir, he said of himself: "As a visual artist, I am a more learned, as a writer of unskilled artists."
After a stonemason training, Grass studied sculpture at the Academy in Düsseldorf in 1948/49 and in 1953 at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. Grass became known as the writer in 1959 with the first part of the so -called "Gdansk Trilogy", the "sheet metal drum".
