Sculpture "Das Wahern Age" (1876), large version in artificial bronze
"The Bronze Age"—originally titled "The Vanquished"—was Rodin's first bronze sculpture. The decisive influences of his trip to Italy, during which he encountered works by Michelangelo and Donatello, are clearly evident. At the Paris and Brussels Salons of 1877, this sculpture caused a scandal due to its pronounced realism.
Original: Bronze, Musée Rodin, Paris / Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Created in 1876.
The version is an ars mundi museum replica, hand-cast in polymer art casting with a bronzed surface.
Height 63 cm. Weight approx. 14 kg.
