August Macke was characterized by Rhenish cheerfulness as a person and as a painter and is perhaps precisely because of this one of the best -known German painters of the 20th century. Macke was a member of the "Blauer Rider" artist association and the most important representative of Rhenish Expressionism. He is considered the greatest German color talent of his generation. But also with his drawings, sketches and designs, he is one of the greats in the art of the 20th century.
