Three brothers, Juan, José, and Vicente Lladró, founded the Lladró art porcelain manufactory in the late 1950s. It remains family-owned to this day. Located in the "porcelain city" of Tavernes Blanques near Valencia, Spain, the company's production facilities enjoy a global reputation. This is due, on the one hand, to the selection of its sculptors and modelers, who captivate experts year after year with their artistic ingenuity, and on the other hand, to the exquisite, unsurpassed craftsmanship of their designs. The recipe for the specially developed porcelain paste, which gives the figures their unique character, is a closely guarded company secret. The composition of the gloss coating is also a closely guarded secret. Lladró's sculptures have long been sought-after collector's items internationally; the limited, individually numbered pieces of each edition quickly find their way around the world.
