The most popular picture of Jan Vermeer is the portrait "The girl with the pearl ear ring" created around 1665. This awareness is based primarily on the modern charisma of the picture: The girl is depicted from the immediate vicinity, without narrative attributes and interacts with the viewer by looking at him directly and keeping his mouth slightly open. It is still unknown to today who is the girl shown - maybe the Magd Griet, as described in Tracy Chevalier's novel of the same name, who was filmed in 2003 by the British film director Peter Webber and was nominated for three Oscars. Original: 1665, oil on canvas, 44.5 x 39 cm, Mauritshius Museum den Haag.
