About Kurt Arentz 1934-2014 The German sculptor and painter was born in Cologne in 1934 as the son of a long-established Bergisches Hunzwerker family. At first he learned a craft, but then found his own artistic activity from 1979. First, still life in oil and pastel and portraits in bronze from celebrities such as Franz Josef Strauß or Herbert von Karajan were created. Later he mainly turned to animal motifs in which he particularly emphasized the typical of the species. Kurt Arentz found his own design language as a remarkable autodid act. Beyond academic experiments, but also far from all naturalistic flatness, he formed symbols of vital nature with his hands. His ideals of an intact world put us into the wild, as it were. Arentz abstracts the animal as a being. He managed to put his works into an era of timeless validity.
