To the best website builders for artists, photographers, designers , and architects , we tested all the major platforms and providers, created our own websites, and examined features such as page builders, portfolio support, online forms, AI assistance, and integrated e-commerce, SEO, and marketing tools. We also took a close look at the builders' user interface/UX and the design professionalism of the websites created.
Finally, we considered comprehensive user experiences with the web design tools on rating platforms such as TrustPilot, Capterra, G2 and OMR to reach a final verdict.
Throughout this entire process, I can look back on a long career as a web designer, dating back to my humble beginnings in 2007. I was therefore able to carry out most of the web design work on Kunstplaza myself. Incidentally, in my university exams, I still had to write the HTML, CSS, and PHP code with a pen on paper – that's how long ago that was…
On the other hand, I'm now very familiar with the requirements that artists and creative professionals have for a professional online presence. Therefore, it was probably only a matter of time before I wrote this guide to website builders for artists.
Here we go 😉
In consultation and close collaboration with other industry experts, this guide presents our top recommendations for website creation. These builders and web design tools are characterized by clean, professional design, user-friendly features, ease of use for non-programmers, and attractive pricing models. At the same time, they take into account the specific needs of the creative industry.
The specific requirements of artists for website builders and web design tools
Website builders are now a dime a dozen. While some major players in this market offer solutions for almost every niche and industry, other tool providers have specialized in offering tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of their target audience.
So what requirements are specific to artists and creative professionals?
Let's leave aside the big and well-known artists for now, as they usually have agencies behind them that handle this work for them. That leaves us with young artists who are at the beginning of their artistic journey.
If you're an aspiring artist looking to exhibit or sell your artwork, a tight budget be a major obstacle. This is especially true if you have plenty of ideas for your website but limited funds for implementation.
Fortunately, there are numerous website builders specifically designed for artists, helping them create attractive portfolios and online presences at a very affordable price. Want to create a website for free? We also have a few (albeit limited) options for you.
The best website builders for artists allow you to create fully functional, modern and completely customizable websites that fully meet all the requirements of the demanding art scene.

These platforms offer extensive features such as portfolio showcasing, extensive visualization and customization options with typography, color choice, icons, effects and media.
Furthermore, they usually include powerful marketing tools and SEO optimization, as well as connections to social media channels and artist platforms. This makes them ideal all-in-one solutions for artistswho want to maximize their investment.
What's new in 2026? The most important innovations
By 2026, the landscape for portfolio websites will have fundamentally changed. Whereas previously it was simply about "putting images online," modern platforms now function as intelligent curators.
This year, the focus of the updates is on the collaboration between artificial intelligence and professional workflows.
- Context-sensitive AI design assistants: Generic templates are a thing of the past. AI tools (like those from Wix or Pixpa) now analyze your artwork (colors, style, mood) and make layout and typography suggestions that enhance the impact of your images, rather than simply framing them.
- Intelligent image handling: To ensure maximum sharpness with minimal loading time, images are automatically converted to formats such as AVIF or WebP 2.0. Furthermore, AI upscalers identify low-quality uploads and improve them in real time.
- Private Client Viewing Rooms: Photographers are increasingly relying on integrated client areas where customers can rate and comment on images and directly purchase licenses or prints – entirely without external services such as Dropbox or Pixieset.
- Blockchain verification: Many website builders now allow digital signatures or NFTs as native integrations to prove authorship of your works directly on the website.

Setting up your own website is quick and easy, but customization options are quite limited. You also quickly reach the limits when it comes to SEO. It's also a shame that ad-free use is only available from the Pro level upwards.

| Trial period: | Unlimited free version |

Mobirise review – Our experience report
Mobirise is a user-friendly offline application for Windows and Mac to create small/medium websites, landing pages, online resumes, portfolios and digital business cards.
The application is particularly suitable for people without a technical background who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of web development, as well as for designers who prefer to work visually without having to worry about complicated code. Mobirise is also suitable for experienced coders to quickly implement prototypes and small client projects.
Mobirise's advertising and pricing structure initially seemed misleading. While a free version of the website builder is advertised, this plan has many limitations that only became apparent later. For example, it's not possible to connect a custom domain name to the website unless you opt for a paid premium subscription at $29 per year.
It was frustrating for us when we were only made aware of this additional fee after launching our Mobirise website.
On the plus side, you can export your Mobirise website for free. This offers an attractive option for users who want to use any web hosting provider.
In addition, there is a 14-day money-back guarantee for those who are not satisfied after upgrading to a premium subscription.
The blogging and e-commerce tools are limited, but otherwise there's little to criticize about the website builder. Many website builders use block-based drag-and-drop editors, but Mobirise stands out positively in this category.
With over 10,000 different blocks to choose from in the website builder package, you can add virtually any feature you want. A standout feature is the powerful mobile-first editor.
Please note, however, that the misleading advertising gives the impression that the add-ons are subject to a one-time license fee, which is not the case. The fees are charged annually. More transparency would be desirable here.

Webflow put to the test – Our experience report
Webflow provides visually oriented, precise design tools, and the user is not dependent on coding work.

As a visual site builder application, Webflow high performance and flexibility, including straightforward domain setup, CMS integration, and e-commerce features, making it an attractive choice for graphically demanding web content and e-commerce projects.
Webflow does have limitations, such as challenges with mobile-first design and non-standardized layout structures. Nevertheless, the technical hurdles on this platform are not as numerous as one might assume.
The platform offers excellent support for SVGs, flexible layout design, sophisticated media queries, and easy access to real CSS properties. However, gaining a comprehensive overview of all the CSS can be challenging.
Since the majority of Webflow users are web designers, they typically create and publish tools, templates, and features that other Webflow users can download and integrate into their own websites.
This community-supported approach to website creation is unique to Webflow and makes it easier for new users to build their pages. However, basic web development knowledge is still beneficial.
From a web designer's perspective, Webflow offers a superior user experience, more detailed customization options, and exports cleaner code than, for example, WordPress. At the same time, websites built with it require less maintenance.
Looking at the negative user reviews on Trustpilot, the main drawbacks are the complicated fee structure, sometimes aggressive sales tactics, and weak support.
Webflow has a tiered pricing model, starting at $14 per month for a static website, $23 per month for a CMS website, and $29 per month for a simple e-commerce website. A free basic version.

Jimdo Review – Our Experience Report
As mentioned earlier, it's not absolutely necessary to know HTML code to use a website builder from our list (with the exception of WordPress.org). However, as an artist, you might feel intimidated by computers, hosting, and web technologies in general
In this case, Jimdo an excellent option for beginners in terms of user-friendliness. Anyone can use this website builder to create a website without having to actively design it themselves: the system takes care of this task automatically.
Start building your website without providing any paid information – simply choose the free option. Jimdo will then ask you questions to determine which features you want your website to have. You can answer these questions (or skip them) to customize things like fonts or add your own images and text.
This guided approach makes Jimdo ideal for those who find platforms like Pixpa, WordPress.org or Squarespace too complicated (Wix offers a similar approach via the Wix ADI service).
However, our tests have shown that Jimdo's templates are rather simple and not particularly appealing, which could be an important criterion especially for artists.
However, if you're looking for a quick and easy solution, this could be an acceptable compromise. Furthermore, Jimdo is n't exclusively for beginners. If you have programming skills, you can install widgets to customize the HTML and CSS code of the templates.
Furthermore, Jimdo can be upgraded modularly at any timeto add features such as an online shop, advanced SEO features, analytics, or a booking system.
Jimdo does not offer live chat or telephone support.

About our experts
During the research phase, as users from the professional web design field, and as valuable advisors, we were assisted by a number of experienced web design professionals for this article. We would like to briefly acknowledge them here.
Allan McNabb, Vice President of Image Building Media, LLC

Image Building Media is an internet marketing company based in Tampa, Florida. It offers customized internet marketing services to clients from various industries throughout the United States.
In his role as VP and COO of Image Building Media, LLC, Allan McNabb responsible for the field sales force and the compilation of programs and products offered to customers. He also leads the web design team, ensuring that the websites they design meet the highest standards, both creatively and functionally.
Allan's recommendation is:
“I’ve worked with many creatives, including graphic designers and digital artists, and I often recommend Squarespace. However, I think the customization options are limiting for someone who needs design freedom.”.
For those who need more flexibility, I recommend Webflow. I've used Webflow for advanced projects and I love the creative control it gives me—it's like having the ability to code without actually having to code. I think it's perfect for graphic designers who want complete control over layouts and animations. The downside, however, is that the learning curve is steeper compared to other builders.
Another great option is Pixpa. I've worked with creatives who love Pixpa for its ease of use and extensive app integration library. I think the templates are versatile, although performance can lag a bit on websites with a lot of media-heavy content.
Dawson Whitfield, CEO & Co-Founder of Looka (formerly Logojoy)

Dawson Whitfield initiated the founding of Looka (formerly known as Logojoy) in 2016 after a decade working as a designer. He is responsible for driving the company's growth and realizing his vision of empowering businesses with technology to create accessible branding experiences so they can tell their stories authentically.
Dawson's recommendation is:
is FORMAT a completely underrated gem for artists and designers who want to present their website like a carefully curated art gallery. It offers a high degree of customizability, and its exceptional templates are ideal for showcasing creative work in an unconventional way. FORMAT excels at creating visual storytelling experiences and is therefore very popular with illustrators, photographers, and digital artists.”
One drawback? The customization options can have both advantages and disadvantages. While you have the freedom to make your website unique, the editing process without coding knowledge can seem less sophisticated than on other platforms. It's a worthwhile investment for creatives who want a portfolio as impressive as their work.
Then there's Framer, a remarkable website builder for creative people who value design freedom and interactive elements. It combines the ease of use of a drag-and-drop interface with the complexity of a code-based platform, making it ideal for designers who want to push creative boundaries without sacrificing ease of use.
The standout feature is real-time interactivity – you can create animations, hover effects, and dynamic transitions directly within the builder. This makes Framer an excellent choice for portfolios where first impressions are crucial.
The downside? Compared to traditional website builders like Squarespace or Wix, the learning curve is steeper. While the user interface is intuitive for experienced designers, the numerous options might be overwhelming for beginners. However, for skilled designers or those willing to invest time in learning, Framer offers possibilities that aren't available with most other website builders
