Vinyl is back: Here's how to hang your LPs on the wall
Vinyl is back in full force. More and more people are buying records, new artists are releasing albums on LP, and record stores are doing better than ever.
Vinyl is on the fast track
Those declared dead are not only living longer, they're experiencing a huge boom. What seemed like a short-lived retro trend for enthusiasts a few years ago has now become a stable economic foundation for the music industry. The official market data from the leading associations (BVMI for Germany and RIAA for the USA) impressively demonstrates this.
The German music market: Vinyl is chasing the CD
In Germany, vinyl records are the only physical sound carrier that has successfully defied digital dominance for years. The latest figures from the German Music Industry Association (BVMI) clearly illustrate this trend:
- Steady growth: After the remarkable increase of 9.4% in 2024, vinyl continued to grow in the following year with an increase of 2.8%.
- Impressive market share: Vinyl records now account for 44.2% of the total physical music market in Germany.
- The throne is wobbling: While the CD is still the second strongest segment behind streaming, its value has declined dramatically – last year alone it fell by 11.3%. It's already becoming clear when vinyl records will overtake CDs in overall sales.
The USA as a global engine: The billion-dollar mark
The development in the world's largest music market is even more extreme. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) reports historic milestones:
| Key figure (USA) | Current value | Development and comparison |
| Vinyl sales | Over $1 billion | Historic high on the US market |
| Growth duration | 19 years | Uninterrupted growth in a row (+9.3% in the most recent year-on-year comparison) |
| Units sold | 46.8 million LPs | Vinyl has long since overtaken the CD (29.5 million units) |
| Revenue factor | More than 3 times as high | Vinyl generates three times as much revenue as CDs |
The USA thus accounts for almost half (nearly 50%) of the global sales value in the entire vinyl segment.
What makes the business better than ever before?
This continuous boom is primarily driven by two forces:
- The "fan factor" and pop icons: Big names in the mainstream, such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Billie Eilish, are the main drivers of the market. Albums are released in countless colored collector's editions ("vinyl variants"). These records are often bought by fans as tangible merchandise, sometimes even without owning a record player.
- A counter-movement to digitalization: In an era where music is omnipresent via streaming services and yet extremely ephemeral, more and more people are discovering the conscious, tactile ritual. A deeper emotional connection to the music arises from placing the needle on the record, the impressive artwork, and consciously listening to an album from beginning to end.
The tactile feel and artistic covers provide genuine analog pleasures
This renewed appeal of vinyl is no wonder, because putting on a record simply feels different than streaming music. You're holding something in your hands, seeing the cover, hearing the difference.
And these covers are often too beautiful to hide away. That's why more and more people are choosing to actually display their collections. Do you want to do that too? These five tips will get you started in no time.

Vinyl as a decorative element on the wall – tips for implementation
Make sure everything hangs straight
A crooked record cover is immediately noticeable. Therefore, take a moment to measure before you begin. A laser level is ideal for this: you project a straight line onto the wall and align your record holder precisely with it. This way, everything looks neat and tidy, even if you hang several records side by side.
No drilling required
Many people don't want to drill holes in the wall. And that's perfectly fine. Excellent models have strong adhesive tape on the back, allowing you to simply stick them to the wall. Stable, easy, and damage-free. Practical if you live in a rental property, but also simply convenient if you don't want to drill.
Make it a real eye-catcher
A single LP on the wall looks great. But a whole wall full of records is truly impressive. Play around with colors and combinations. Do you only hang covers in the same color? Then it looks calm and tidy. Do you mix different styles? Then you create a playful and personal overall look.

Simply change the record
Hanging up your records means you'll actually play them. With a good record holder, you simply slide a record out through the open top. No fuss with clips or glass, no fingerprints—just quickly grab your favorite record and place it on the holder. This way, you're truly using your collection instead of just having it hanging on the wall.
Don't hang your records in the sun
Many people forget this: Vinyl records don't tolerate direct sunlight. Your records can warp and the covers can fade. So choose a spot out of direct sunlight. This also applies to your record player. In a shady spot, your records and covers will stay in good condition for years.
Frame ideas for LPs on the wall
In the video “Vinyl Records on the Wall: Frame Ideas for Your Collection” from the channel Souldisco, the YouTuber explores various options for decoratively displaying vinyl records on the wall and tests a new product that is heavily advertised on social media:
Your wall, your music
Installing a record holder is easier than you think. No drilling, no hassle. Simply display your favorite records on the wall, exactly how you want. Whether you hang a single cover or create an entire gallery, it always looks great.
