Read more about this term and why these books might not be a good choice as a gift for every woman.
Chick Lit- also referred to as girls or chicken literature- is the type of literature that specifies to describe the everyday life of young women of today, their worries and their typical behaviors. ”

This area of fiction usually deals with the living environment of attractive modern women who actually have everything in (well -situated) life and are still frustrated.
They don't quite meet the requirements of the current ideal of beauty, they constantly notice new flaws in themselves and, by the Methuselah age of 30, they have not yet managed to find the man of their dreams.
Aside from these pathetic women and their equally needy friends, it's all about consumption. Anyone who doesn't own the latest trendy shoes simply falls out of the social circle (how these trendy brands are incorporated into the mystery thrillers and vampire novels of chick lit deserves further investigation).
It is also the type of literature in which women without a man are unhappy, are constantly getting into trouble and actually do not cope with life.
The name does not want to conceal this in the least, the term chick lit comes from “lit” for literature and the American expression “chick”, which in turn is derived from the Spanish “chica” = “girl”. This is a commonly used term in the United States, it is used for young women and expresses that they are neither valued nor fully taken.
And the way this term specifies, the women in the Chick Lit are also treated: they are the helpless, driven victims of their beauty, their ignorance or their desire, during the novel continuously in stress or danger until they are saved either by “right men” or by romantic and not really dangerous vampires.
Funny! Many modern women say this, presenting themselves as decidedly thoughtful and explicitly cool. Accordingly, Wikipedia describes chick lit as fiction aimed at hip young women and girls. "Hip" in the sense of trendy, chic, fashionable, contemporary.
Contemporary?
"Yes, are you still to save?" Ask advanced and intelligent women (and just as men) who catch their supposedly intelligent daughters with these works. "We have had several centuries of emancipation behind us until our society has slowly realized that women really have the same value as men, and they voluntarily read books in which women are not able to cope with life?"
Nevertheless, chick lit sells well, and new TV channels for women also think they'll make a good impression by addressing their future customers with chickens.
There's nothing wrong with chickens. Chickens are truly fun animals, sociable, hardworking, and cuddly, and sometimes even extremely resourceful!
Yes, but it's also the proverbially "stupid" chickens that flock together around a (sometimes very questionable) rooster. And it's the chickens that are eaten by foxes if there's no fence to protect them, the ones that don't start a revolution in factory farming, but simply die...
Is chick lit really that bad?
"It's not that tragic!" say many women today who not only have a satisfying job but also a man who shows them affection and respect. And for these women, money isn't so important that they let the continued gender pay gap bother them. These women don't get too worked up about chick lit either.
Only - you will certainly not read Chick Lit either. Not only because the content of these books sometimes seems to be “far from home”, but also because of the often poor literary quality of these works.
Which isn't to say that there aren't some wonderfully ironic books among the works sold as chick lit. They don't claim to change the world in literary terms, but are genuinely enjoyable as vacation reading.
You only have to be caution when buying: If your girlfriend has just successfully tortured herself through a demanding total edition that was not easy to understand, the quality drop should not be too high, this does not bring any relaxation, but disappointment.
