The fusion of abstraction and figuration, thematically linked to the decay of nature, is characteristic of Dagmar Vogt's work. Born in 1960 near Cologne, the artist is concerned, in both painting and sculpture, with exploring the boundaries between anatomical and free sculptural representation. In her relief-like, large-format paintings, she captures the atmosphere of nature with its mountains, lakes, and plants: "The cycle of life, nature and its cycles are eternally new themes for me." This results in series such as "Blooming and Withering" and "Blossoms by the River," which have a fairytale-like quality, like moments from dreams—never clear, always blurred. The decay of the luminous blossoms seems to become visible in a single moment through the abstracted painting style. Dagmar Vogt works with many gradations of a single color tone and creates numerous preliminary sketches.
