Alex Solodov is a visual artist living in Portugal. He was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1971. Alex began painting and drawing at the age of 13. While studying at the Stroganov University of Arts in Moscow, he focused primarily on abstract, surreal, and expressionist painting and drawing styles. At the same time, he was inspired by the Indonesian batik dyeing technique and created many artworks in this style, using silk fabrics as his canvas. Currently, Alex mainly paints expressionist pop art portraits using sumi-e ink wash and watercolor techniques. Many of his works are inspired by Japanese and Portuguese culture. He also enjoys traveling through Portugal and the island of Madeira, painting expressionist landscapes, cityscapes, and ocean scenes. More than 200 artworks by Alex have been exhibited in private collections, corporate collections, and galleries worldwide (including over 100 sold here at Artfinder) in the UK, Australia, Germany, Lithuania, the USA, Austria, France, Denmark, Russia, and Brazil. His recent exhibitions include: 2012 - Group exhibition "Cat People," St. Ink Gallery, Bucharest, Romania. 2011 - 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (parallel program, project "Invasion"), Art Play Design Center, Moscow, Russia. 2010 - Group exhibition at the Bo Sigvardson Gallery, Rødby, Denmark.
