Helge Leiberg, born in Dresden in 1954, studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Music is a recurring theme in the work of this multimedia artist, who has collaborated with AR Penck on numerous musical projects. Leiberg's world of paintings and sculptures consists of symbolic figures: slender, with elongated limbs and expansive gestures. Their dance-like movements reveal life in its purest form: sometimes lost in thought, sometimes interacting, they express attraction and aversion, struggle and union. His masterful linework and virtuoso depiction of movement characterize his work. Leiberg draws inspiration from the reciprocal influence of painting, dance, and music. He played in a band with AR Penck and created performances with Christa Wolf at the Salzburg Festival. Helge Leiberg was awarded the Brandenburg Art Prize for Painting in 2013. His works are held in the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Würth Collection, and many other public and private collections.
