About Günter Grass
1927-2015

The Günter Grass, born in Danzig in 1927, is considered an important representative of German literature. In addition, he also made a name for himself as a sculptor, painter and graphic artist. Not without his own stir, he said of himself: "As a visual artist, I am a more learned, as a writer of unskilled artists."

After a stonemason training, Grass studied sculpture at the Academy in Düsseldorf in 1948/49 and in 1953 at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. Grass became known as the writer in 1959 with the first part of the so -called "Gdansk Trilogy", the "sheet metal drum".

Grass has developed an increasingly increasing political commitment since the early 1960s, which was sustainable in his books against mirrors t. In the 1980s, numerous graphic works were created, which were published in the two -volume work "Drawing and writing". This is where self -quotes are particularly emphasized and underline his time criticism.
