When Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) had long been a renowned artist, the Art Nouveau of the Wiener Ringstrasse had decisively shaped by his murals and was a co-founder of the Viennese second, his "golden style" was created. Inspired by Byzantine mosaics, he added ornamental colored areas into a golden bed like gemstones. In his image programs, Klimt describes the human life path that, negatively influenced by drives, finds his redemption in the kiss. The body representations have subtle eroticism, although their designs dissolve in ornamental, geometric color surfaces. He uses this principle of style not only for his pair representations, but also in the portraits of rich women and the landscape pictures. This flat style is the epitome of the intensive colored art of Klimts, which his work only characterizes from 1905.
