By their very nature, carpets among the furnishings that are literally walked on a lot. However, it's perfectly normal for things placed on the floor to receive less attention in everyday life.

This can be attributed to the fact that they are not in the direct field of vision or at eye level.

However, this is not the only reason to transform the rug itself into a true work of art for a change. This can be achieved by hanging the rug on the wall

Genuine tapestries are often larger and have a more pronounced texture. Therefore, there are definitely some differences to consider between a conventional carpet and a tapestry designed for wall decoration

This is how carpets and tapestries differ

Wall hangings are also tapestries . A traditional tapestry is a wall hanging that features a motif or image. The most significant difference, however, lies in the manufacturing process. Regular carpets are woven, while tapestries are knitted.

However, ordinary carpets can also be used as wall decoration . It should simply be noted that most regular floor carpets are heavier than special wall hangings. Therefore, professional installation is always necessary to avoid damaging the walls or the carpet.

Generally speaking, the smaller and lighter the chosen rug, the easier it is to attach to the wall. Of course, the wall itself must also be suitable for hanging the rug.

Attaching the carpet to the wall

Tapestry in a wooden frame

A rug can be beautifully displayed on the wall using a wooden frame. Four wooden strips are needed to build the frame, each ten centimeters longer than the rug.

Furthermore, both the thickness and color of the wood should match the weight and appearance of the carpet. The heavier the carpet, the thicker and sturdier the strips of wood need to be.

The carpet is then clamped into the frame at its top and bottom edges. This is done using U-brackets, which are screwed firmly into the wooden strips at regular intervals. The next step is attaching the frame to the wall. For this, the frame is screwed into the wall using four wall anchors.

Alternatively, a fabric frame is also an option. This requires long strips of fabric, to which a sturdy cord is attached for hanging. The fabric should also be sufficiently robust and match the dimensions of the rug in both width and length.

The cord must be strong enough to securely hold the rug. Finally, the hanging loop must be sewn to the fabric. Ideally, a durable, double-layered cotton thread should be used for this.

Alternatively, the carpet can also be attached to the wall using tack strips. These are thin wooden strips with integrated thumbtacks.

The binding strips must be adjusted to the outer edges of the carpet before hanging.

Using a spirit level , the strips should then be attached straight to the wall. The carpet is then attached to the strips.
